An extremely rare and interesting silver unit of Harsha Deva
Lot 2031
INDIA, Medieval. Hindu Rajas of Kashmir. Harsha Deva, 1089-1101. Unit (Silver, 14 mm, 3.17 g, 1 h). SRI HARSHADEVA ('Lord Harshadeva' in Sharada) Queen riding horse to right. Rev. Goddess Lakshmi seated facing on lotus, holding lotus in her right hand and vase in her left. Joe Cribb: The Coins of the Kashmir King Harshadeva, in: JONS 208 (2011), p. 30, figure 10. Extremely rare, a single example recorded by Cribbs. Good very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

This was the only silver coin type issued in Kashmir for over 400 years. It was first published in 2011 by Cribb after a few pieces were discovered in Gujranwala. Interestingly, the horse rider on this example is clearly female, thus perhaps showing the queen instead of the king.
